Sarah Palin, feminism, motherhood.

The New York Times had an article about Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin and the issues her nomination has raised about motherhood and work.

When I first heard of her canidecy, it made me kind of angry, that McCain would pick someone quite inexperienced in an apparent attempt to pander to the female vote, and for no other reason. But then again, that's what politicians do. This whole debate that she has opened is really fascinating-- conservative values, pro-family working mom with a 4 month old baby, abstinence-only advocate with a pregnant teenager... she is a series of contradictions, but maybe she isn't really. I need to sort out what I think about her. And all of the other political candidates too.

P.S. Kind of thought that Obama's convention speech was amazing. but then again, most convention speeches in the past also made grand promises for change.

How are you Suvi?! I just saw the link to your blog on Ben Arkell’s blog. I’m so glad we can keep in touch now. Check out my blog: rickandmoshi.blogspot.com

Now for a real comment on your posting: I'm waiting until the debates to officially decide, but by picking Palin McCain drew closer to capturing my independent vote.

Love the last line and comments. People need to think before they vote for her just because.

Don't forget to update us about Martha's Vineyard! We wanna hear all about it!!!

After careful consideration, I have developed a foolproof method for determining who deserves office. Using a set of complex calculations, the "Look-alike" test is 99% accurate. Let's see what we get, shall we?

McCain campaign:
Sarah Palin looks like Tina Fey. I don't want the star of "Baby Momma" in charge of anything, but her diplomacy in "Mean Girls" was impressive. Overall score: +1

John McCain kind of looks like a T-Rex when he smiles. +1 for being extinct, but MAJOR deductions for killing Little Foot's mom. Overall score: -3

Total Campaign: -2

Obama campaign:
Neither Barack Obama nor Joe Biden have a look-alike. -5 for not playing along.

Michelle Obama looks like a black version of Jordan's friend Robyn, who put a lot of effort into her Halloween costume. Overall score:+2

Total campaign: -2

Drat, a tie! Looks like I'll have to watch the debates after all...
