Michael Pollan wrote an amazing piece on food policy in the NY Times magazine as an open letter to the next president. I would recommend everyone to read it. He brings up so many good reasons why we should change the way that we make food in this counrty, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and turning back to the sun as the main source of energy to producing our food. Love it. it's a little long, but totally worth it. Eat Local!

I was reminded about how pleasant it is to eat close to the source this weekend when i made it to the farmers market on a beautiful indian summer saturday here. Nothing quite like it. and the food tastes so much better when made with my hands from local produce.

Thank you so much for sharing this article! I actually just began reading a book that discusses this exact same thing, entitle Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year in Food Life. Barbara Kingsolver delves into just this issue and shows how she worked for a year to eat food only made or grown within a certain mile radius. Interesting and definitely something for us to think about!

One of my favorite macrobiotic cookbooks The Self-Healing Cookbook by Kristina Turner discusses this as well-- Eat local and think global. I love it. The cookbook is so cool and cute and you can read it like a normal book.

One icky fact from the book was when it talked about fast food and how one burger has beef from so many different cows from different places. . .
